What Manner of Persons Ought Ye Be

In 2 Peter, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John we learn about the second coming of the Lord. The scriptures say that "the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night". We have all heard the story of the ten virgins and know that every many has to prepare for himself and a last minute preparation or a "borrowed" testimony will not be enough. This past weekend was general conference where we were able to listen to God's apostles and prophet. We were able to witness a solemn assemble where we were able to sustain a new prophet, his counselors, the 12 apostles, the quorum of the 70, and local church leaders all over the world. Seven new temples were announced, some of which are in countries where this will be the first temple. We listened to changes that were made in relief society and priesthood where we will be able to minister better like in the times of Christ. All in all, it was a conference that was full of power. In the words of our beloved Prophet, "The Lord will preform some of His mightiest works from now until He comes again". What power in that statement. We have had scriptures, specifically the bible and new testament, that have told us that the Lord will come again and that we need to do to prepare. But as it says in second Peter 3:11, "What manner of persons ought ye be"? What do we need to do to prepare? What can we do better to anticipate the coming of our Lord? Verse 14 of Second Peter chapter three says,
"14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless."
The manner of person we need to be is spotless and blameless at the last day and we do that by searching for peace and seeking forgiveness through repentance. As stated by Elder Lynn G. Robbins just yesterday in general conference, "no one is more on our side than the Savior" and as we repent He will forgive us, but it requires our action.
Remember to learn the will of the Lord, lean to His counsels and critiques, and love the trials you have been given, because they are shaping you eternally.
